Top 5 Marvel Origin Movies

Top 5 Marvel Origin Movies

Marvel Studios had been known to create cinematic masterpieces based on the characters from our beloved comics. But every fantastic franchise has a beginning. Here are NVMI’s Top 5 Marvel Origin Movies.

#5.) Spiderman Homecoming

The Spiderman franchise has had several re-incarnations, with  three actors cast as Spiderman, but the only MCU cannon Spiderman origin movie thus far has been Spiderman Homecoming.

This movie took the world by storm, ranking in 880.2 million dollars in the box office, earning an impressive 92% in Rotten Tomatoes, and an Audience Score of 87%. Impressive for a kid from Queens.

The movie begins with Peter Parker dealing with his new found powers, while also trying to live a relatively normal life in high school. That is until he encounters an illegal organisation that sells some of the alien technology, from a past attack on New York, for weaponization. Peter is determined to bring them down while also trying to woo the girl of his dreams to go to Homecoming with him.

Everything  is going fine until he finds out the father of the girl he is pining after is the leader of the bad guys. For the rest of the movie, Peter now has to make several hard decisions with the odd appearance of Ironman here and there.

The movie is an absolute delight to watch and is the right blend of action and comedy with a dash of romance thrown in for flavor.

#4.) Iron Man

Iron Man is the first MCU film to be released in 2008, coming at #4 in today’s list, this movie starring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark has made 585.3 million dollars in the box office, a 94% in Rotten Tomatoes, and an audience score of 91%.

This is the movie where we come to learn the origin story of Iron Man. It all starts with the smart billionaire inventor Tony Stark when he is held hostage by a group of terrorists. He is held hostage to help build a weapon that could potentially harm the world and its citizens. But like we said before, with the super inventor abilities, he manages to escape and build a super-suit that will make him known as the one and only Iron Man.

#3.) Guardians of the Galaxy

The beloved Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy, takes third place on this rating list. The film made a total of 772.8 million USD worldwide.

This movie was a leap of faith since the main characters never really had a huge fan base, unlike other superheroes, prior to the film, like Spider-Man, Captain America, and Iron-Man.

Not only was this film a smash in the box office, but it also gained a rating of 92% on both Rotten Tomatoes and Audience Score. The film then won a total of seven awards, including  the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Action Movie, and the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form.

The film starred a cast full of comedic actors, with Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Vin Diesel as Groot, Dave Batista as Drax, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket. This is an origin story about a group of bandits who team up together to defend the planet Xandar, from lunatic Kree Leader, Ronan the Accuser, who is played by Lee Pace.

Guardians of the Galaxy is a movie that opened up a lot of possibilities and insane fan theories which were either debunked or accurate. This was also a very funny movie, that can be watched with a girlfriend, friends, or even family, at any time anywhere. Definitely a classic Marvel film.

#2.) Black Panther

At #2 we have the movie Blank Panther, this movie has made an incredible 1.334 billion dollars at the box office, has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 96%, and an audience score of 79%.

Making history in the MCU,  the film Black Panther won big at the 2019 Oscars. It won 3 Oscars, they were for Ruth E. Carter Best Costume Design, Hannah Beachlers Best Production Design, and lastly it won for Ludwig Goransson’s Best Original Score. This movie not only made history for winning big at the 2019 Oscars  but also the fact that both Ruth Carter and Hannah Beachler became the first black women to win in their categories. Like Ruth Carter stated at the award ceremony “Marvel may have created the first black superhero but through costume design we turned him into an African king.”

This movie is great to watch with your family as you follow the story of T’Challa aka Black Panther, as he faces danger in order to save his nation and people of Wakanda.

#1.) The Avengers

So technically speaking, this isn’t an origin movie for a single hero, but it is an origin movie for one of the most beloved Marvel teams to date. Avengers lands the top spot with a spectacular 1.519 billion dollar cash grab in the box office and a 91% in both Rotten Tomatoes and the Audience Score. All to be expected from the top heroes of the MCU.

The movie opens with Loki(Thor’s brother) obtaining the Tesseract, one of the six infinity stones with the ability to alter the fabric of space. Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D., assembles a team of superheroes to save the day.

The team members include Ironman, Captain America, the Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye. The team gets to fighting off the alien invasion and of course, good prevails, but not without Loki attempting an escape failing and being locked up.

The movie is fast paced and can be confusing for some without any background knowledge. But to some blissfully ignorant and/or well informed people, The movie is a blast and definitely earned its spot at the top of the list.
