December of 2020,  Pfizer was the first company to announce that they were ready with the COVID vaccine and a week later the FDA allowed Pfizer to start sending out its vaccine. Moderna had its vaccine approved soon after. Pfizer and Moderna are the only two companies that are allowed to give out the vaccines. Soon the Johnson and Johnson vaccine will be approved by the FDA. The first people who will get vaccinated are Healthcare workers,  and Long-term care residents which is phase 1a. The next phase is phase 1b which are Individuals 65 and older, Frontline essential workers such as fire fighters, police officers, corrections officers, food and agricultural workers, United States Postal Service and education workers.  As of February 21 2021, 7.1 million Californians have been vaccinated, and we will be moving on into phase 1b on March 1.
