Words of Wisdom: A Black History Month Conversation with Dr. Shirley Weber (February 16, 2021, at 4 p.m.)

Please join the California Department of Education, students from across the state, and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond for a virtual Black History Month conversation with Dr. Shirley Weber.

First elected to the California State Assembly in 2012, Dr. Weber has been a voice of moral clarity in the Legislature as she provides leadership on issues of racial and social justice. Dr. Weber is making history in her own right as the first African American to serve as Secretary of State in California.

During the virtual dialogue, young scholars and I will have a chance to engage in an interactive discussion about Dr. Weber’s experience over the years, the importance of teaching black history and elevating black excellence all year long, and the power of civic engagement.

The conversation will take place on Facebook Live at  https://www.facebook.com/caeducation and via Zoom athttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/84486739759 (passcode: 194593).
