Boredom Be Gone with Fun and Creative Quarantine Activities

Elisha Novoa

With the stay at home order lockdown again here in Los Angeles County, we are mandated to stay home. With the winter break next week, here are some fun activities to do when you are bored and want to have some fun with family and friends while still staying COVID safe.

Online Games

Stay connected with friends and family by playing online games. Create a Zoom call or Facetime to play UNO, Trivia, Psych, Among Us, and more.

To play Psych, participants make up fake answers to real trivia questions, and one player must choose the real answer among the fakes. There’s even an “And the Truth Comes Out” deck that allows you to do the same thing with personal questions about each other.

To play  Among Us, up to ten players run around inside a virtual spaceship completing classic spaceship maintenance tasks while trying to figure out who the “Impostors” are before they kill everyone.

If you go on you can find all the classical board games like Crazy 8s, Flash Cards, Cribbage, etc.

All these games are free to download. You can play them at any time of the day even when you are bored at 3 am.

Binge Watch T.V Shows

If you’re searching for good TV to spend a lot of time with on Netflix, Hulu, Disney +, or other T.V apps here are some of the best shows worth your time. Hopefully, you’ll find a hidden gem or two here to keep you entertained at home.

The 100                             The Office

The Order                          Gilmore Girls

Once Upon a Time            Atypical

The Originals                    One Tree Hills

Vampire Diaries                Riverdale

The Good Place               Young and Hungry

Parenthood                      Greys Anatomy

Criminal Minds                 Private Practice

All American                    One Day at a Time

Never Have I Ever           Dynasty

If you don’t feel like watching these alone you and your friend or family can create a Netflix party and watch all the shows and movies together.

Start a project

Do some crafts. Tie-dying old t-shirts and hoodies is a way to get creative and freshen up your wardrobe.  Painting and drawing are excellent ways to decorate indoor spaces. Also giving your room a makeover by rearranging furniture, repainting the walls, or refashioning furniture.

 Make Some Money

Create a small business selling things you love to make. Sell clothes you do not wear anymore and make some extra cash to spend, save, or invest in these times. You can sell them on Depop and Poshmark.

Try At-home Workouts

YouTube has an endless stream of workout videos that can be done with just a mat at home. You can also create a workout that starts you off easy. To make sure that you stick with it, you can create a buddy system to keep each other accountable and have a partner to work out with.

Foster or adopt an animal

Shelters around the Los Angeles Area are doing their best to keep fewer staff at their facilities, while taking in an influx of homeless pets, meaning that hundreds to thousands of animals are in search of homes. Foster homes and adoptions are very much appreciated. An animal can also give you emotional support, you would be helping them and yourself if you foster or adopt a pet. Visit to get adopted or foster.

Improve Cooking Skills

Become the next master chef. With all this free time, now is perfect to learn or get better at this life skill. Try cooking different dishes every night or bake something for you and your family. If it doesn’t come out great, you live and you learn and try again the next night. YouTube is a great source to find recipes with a step-by-step visual process and entertaining personalities at the same time. Also can visit and for some delicious recipes.

Pamper Yourself

One good thing about quarantine is that you can change your hair, clothing style, and make-up until you find something you are comfortable in. Not many people are going to see you, so take this time to find the real you. You can also use this time to do a hair mask, take a bubble bath, or do whatever form of self-care makes you feel better. It can be fun to make your own face masks with materials that can be found around your kitchen and bathroom. A simple one that I do often is an exfoliating honey and oatmeal mask. All that you have to do is mix one tablespoon of raw honey, one tablespoon of uncooked oatmeal (grind in a blender to a powder rather than use whole oats for a gentler application). Apply to your face and let sit for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse it off with a warm cloth.

Explore Nature

With the stay-at-home order, there are not many things you can do. But here are some of the things you can do outdoors to get some fresh air.

Go on hikes near your home — it is important to get fresh air and get some exercise.

Ride your bike around the community.

Drive to see Christmas decorations.

Go to a drive-in movie theater.

There is an endless amount of things that you can do during the break while we are quarantined. These are just some activities to get you started.
